TESTIMONIALS

"Dearest Kathryn,

Your work is MAGNIFICENT

I feel your spirit soar beyond all the mundane stuff of the world when I look at your work. I feel joy, love, freedom, and an indescribable beauty that takes something as ephemeral yet as eternal as light and captures its cosmic dance, its properties of particle and wave, its complete presence with us and with all life on the planet as a healing vital force yet always in the background. It speaks to me of you and your life, full of presence and grace yet often you are supporting others from the background, with love and vitality and strength. I truly believe your work is as great as any of the famous photographers of all time, the one that comes to mind is Ansel Adams but there must be many more.

It is your time to soar, without wings and higher than birds,

Love always"

“You’re a brilliant artist and your presentation and storytelling voice was a revelation. I feel blessed by it. The presentation went perfectly. We hope to see you at the next Van Peebles festival, and I look forward to the day we can see some of your photographs on screen in a documentary or in a coffee table book."

"There is a moment of pause when first encountering Kathryn’s ethereal photographs, an intake of breath and stillness of thought in reaction to their visceral beauty. The best of art does this to us. A sense of movement and dance of light so compelling contained in her visual poetry. And indeed she does dance she told me! Finding sources of light whether in the city or in nature, Kathryn dances with her partner the camera to blur the lines of what is real into pure abstraction. The undulations of her imagery created by the way she moves in front of her subject. The result is pure alchemy turning the mundane into something transcendent. So yes it’s not an overstatement to say your breath skips for a moment and your heart fills with a joy in front of her photos which are difficult to put into words. Using her camera as a wand she is a magician transforming light into spirit."

"Kathryn was Melvin's neighbor across the hall for many years. She is a brilliant photographer, and her photos are absolutely extraordinary. Viewing them just now for the first time has been a deeply moving experience.

Enjoy these beautiful images as they invoke affectionate and misty memories, and feel free to share with friends."

"Dear Kathryn, I have just spent some time going through the beautiful photographs on your magnificent website. It is amazing how our souls welcome beauty, how it makes us smile and how it feeds our spirit. For a moment I was absorbed in the colors and the shapes and forgot my worries. It was blissful. In addition to the awesome images, I was taken in by your writing and appreciated how connected you are to your art. Thank you for sharing your art and beauty and your history with the world! Thank you too for the time you spent with me and for sharing your journey with the creation of The New York Women's Foundation. I'm feeling very fortunate to know you.

Warmest wishes,"

"Kathryn – WOW!!! I had no idea! What a powerful collection of images in your various exhibitions. I especially loved the power and beauty of “When The Ocean Surges”. But I must say, I found all of the images compelling. And in contrast, what an amazing collection of real life images of Melvin Van Peebles. The lighting of his face and his surroundings is exquisite and honors his great spirit. Last, I would only say that your beautifully written statement about you and your intent to capture the “radiance and light in people” is in itself poetry. I remember the comment from your mom when she first heard my piano music. Her quote: “it conquered me”. The same goes for my experience of your photography. She would be very proud of you.

Best,"

"Dear Kathryn:

I have visited your website several times and each time I just find myself captured by your images in their mystery and poetry. To me, you feel more like a painter, using light to create evocative memories, spaces of intimate dreams and unfathomable depth. At times they appear energetic and sensual and other times, formal and remote. I so enjoyed lingering in the images of the light series, filled with magic and enchantment.

What precision in your technique and what freedom, movement, and fascinating spaces you have created!!  Congratulations!

Your work brings me great joy. Thank you for sharing.

With love,"

Recognizing that creativity and beauty are powerful agents for healing and change, she created “Barefoot Artists”  to spark transformation, healing and social change in places plagued by poverty, crime and despair with projects and workshops in places including Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Ecuador, and China.  In her words  “I have come to realize that broken communities are my canvases, people’s stories the pigments and their talents, the tools that shape the art we create. Making art in forlorn places is like making a fire in a frozen winter night. It brings light, warmth and hope.”

"Dear Kathryn,

I am absolutely impressed by your creations.  I have visions of you becoming very famous because of the creativity and artistic achievements you have shown in your work.  I think your work is in a niche of its own.

I also think it is a very important niche you have created in the art world.  I am not an art critique but have spent a good 60 years of my life looking at and collecting art.  You have created something truly unique.

It is the excitement and rush of adrenaline that I get when I see your work.

I knew C.C. now I know you.

With lots of love,"

"How spectacular are you and your eyes

When I saw the pipe, I smelled the smoke as if I was there.

The imparted life well lived cannot be missed in the eyes, hands of your subject.

Your thoughtfulness merged with his intensity to deliver life within the viewer's enclave."
